How to Choose the Right Doormat for Your Space
Choosing a doormat is simple, right? You have a door, you buy a mat for it, and you’re good to go!
Well, actually there is a little more to it than that. Choosing the right doormat for your home comes down to a few different factors, including the weather/climate in your area, size of your door, where the mat is being used, etc. It’s not a difficult process but having a few pointers will help you choose the right mat that will suit your space and be able to withstand the elements.
At A1HC, we carry a selection of stylish, ethically made and responsibly sourced doormats for a wide range of uses. Made from renewable natural materials, like coconut coir and rubber, they are practical, stylish, and environmentally friendly.
So, when choosing the right mat for your home, ask yourself the following questions.

Is your mat for indoor or outdoor use?
Depending on the material of the mat, you’ll be able to use it either outdoors, indoors, or both. All of our doormats are suitable for outdoor and indoor use and are made from durable materials that can withstand a lot of traffic, dirt, and grime.
Not all mats need to be used by a door either- our garden stepping stone mats let you to create a cute path or walkway through your backyard and our rubber mats are great to use by a pool or any wet areas that need slip protection.
Will your mat be in a covered or uncovered area?
Even is a mat is made for outdoor use, that doesn’t necessarily mean it can be placed in an uncovered area. Certain doormats (such as our rubber mats) can be used anywhere outside, while others (such as our coir mats) need to be placed in a covered area, like a covered porch. These mats hold up great in the outdoors, but can be damaged by direct exposure to rain, snow, and sunlight.
How big is your door?
Doormats aren’t a one size fits all kind of thing- for the right look, you want them to suit the width of your door. If you have a double door, you’ll want a larger mat, and if you have a single door, you’ll want a smaller, standard size, doormat.
We offer both standard and large doormats, so regardless of your door size, there’s an option for you.
You’ll also want to note how much space there is between the bottom of your door and the floor. If you have a larger gap, you can go for a thicker mat, but if there is only a small gap, you’ll want a thinner mat, so the door doesn’t catch on it. Our coir mats tend to be thicker, while our rubber mats are great if you need something thin, yet durable.
What style are you looking for?
This one comes down to personal preference. Particularly if you’re choosing a mat for your front door, this is one of the most visible décor pieces in your whole home, so you want to choose a style that you really love.
Whether you’re looking for something simple, patterned, modern, or classic, there’s a style out there with your name on it (literally! Our monogrammed doormats are one of our best sellers).
