How to Decorate Your Porch for Spring

The spring weather is here, the flowers are blooming, and the birds are chirping- it’s outdoor living season and we couldn’t be more excited about it! One of our favorite spring and summer activities is simply hanging out on the front porch, enjoying the weather and chilling out.

We also love it because it means we have another spot of our homes we get to decorate! To make the most out of this time of year, we love decorating a beautiful and homey outdoor spot to hang out in, and in this week’s post, we’re sharing how to decorate your porch for spring.

Make any repairs/upgrades

Before you start decorating, make sure you’re starting with a fresh slate by making any repairs or upgrades necessary. This could mean fixing a broken step, giving your porch a fresh coat of paint, replacing an old porch light bulb, or even going all out and adding on an extension. Once you’re done with the repairs, you can move on to the fun part- decorating!

Add seating

If you’re going to enjoy the outdoor season right, you’ll need somewhere to sit! This could be a front porch swing (the dream!), an outdoor couch, a hanging chair, Adirondacks, rocking chairs, DIY pallet seats- the options are endless! The type of seating you choose will depend on the look you’re going for, as well as your budget, but luckily there are plenty of options for every budget and style preference.

Layer up

Make your space comfortable for lounging with lots of throw pillows and keep away the evening chill with cozy blankets. Simply layering a few pillows and throws onto your front porch furniture makes your space looks so much warmer and more lived in.

A look we really love is keeping a basket full of throws by the door, so guests can help themselves to a blanket when they get chilly (plus, a basket full of throws is just so cute!).

(If your pillows aren’t water resistant, make sure you bring them in at night to keep them from getting mildewy.)

Choose the right doormat

When it comes to front porch décor, doormats are one of the most important pieces because they frame the door and take center stage in the space! If your doormat is looking worn and weather beaten, it can make the rest of your porch feel shabbier, and a fresh new mat gives your porch an instant refresh.

Our Classic Border Monogrammed mats are our top selling doormat, and they give such a warm, family feel to your home. Whichever style of mat you choose, make sure match the rest of your porch décor to really tie the space together.

String lights

For instant ambiance and style, simply add some string lights to your porch. It’s amazing the difference this one small addition can make! Not only do they look great, but the extra light lets you sit out even once the sun goes down.

Accessorize with plants

For the final touch, add in some flowers and plants to finish off the look. There are lots of beautiful ways to decorate your porch with plants including window boxes, planters, and vases with fresh cut flowers. If you have a garden on your lawn, make sure the plants on your porch coordinate with your garden to create a cohesive look.
