How to Practice Self Care During the Holiday Season

The holiday season is almost upon us, and that means time with family, tasty food… and a lot of rushing around. While the holidays can be a fun and celebratory time of year, it can also be filled with a lot of stress, overwhelm and anxiety. Difficult family dynamics, stressful travel, or simply over scheduling yourself can turn what should be a happy time into a chaotic situation.

While we do love embracing the busyness of this time of year, we’re also big advocates of carving out some time for yourself. Setting aside even just a few minutes a day for yourself can impact your entire mood and can take the holidays from alarmingly hectic to joyfully busy.

Everyone’s self-care looks a little different, as we all have different things that leave us feeling centered and happy, but if you’re stumped on where to begin, the following tips are a great place to start on your holiday self-care practice.

Go to bed early (or at least on time)

Holidays are often accompanied by numerous parties, which can go well into the evening, leaving us feeling tired, cranky, and maybe a little hungover. Getting enough sleep is crucial for a good mood and enjoyable holiday, so don’t feel guilty about ducking out of a party early so you can enjoy the rest you need.

And if you want to stay up late (celebrating at a party can be self-care too!), do your best to make up for the lost sleep by sleeping in or sneaking in a nap the next day.

Our soft organic cotton bedding will make going to bed early even more enjoyable. From our temperature regulating New Zealand wool pillows to our fluffy duvets and comforters to our organic cotton sheets, our bedding will give you the sleep self-care dreams are made of.

Go to your favorite workout class

Many of us get so caught up in the responsibilities and schedules around the holiday season that we make little to no time for our regular routines. If you find yourself ditching your usually workout in favor of yet another holiday obligation, remind yourself just how much better you’ll feel by taking that yoga class/walk/run/whatever does it for you.

Curl up with a good book

Repeat after us: “I am allowed to take time for myself over the holidays!” There is something soo luxurious about taking a bit of time to yourself during the day to read a good book. Get cozy with a cup of coffee, your favorite read, and one of our organic throw blankets and enjoy the ultimate in daytime self-care.

Skip the lines and do your shopping online

Nothing says stress like a crowded mall during the holidays! Luckily, these days it’s easier than ever to find what you’re looking for online and skip the crowds and line ups entirely. Our collection of sustainably sourced home products, from bedding to throw pillows and everything in between, is perfect for the decor lover on your list. Better yet? Take a few deep breaths

If all else fails and your schedule gets away from you, spend a few minutes taking some slow calming breaths. It’s amazing how just a few moments of focusing on your breathing can really destress you and help you to feel more centered and present.

Wishing you all a very happy holiday season!
