Wool vs. Down vs. Down Alternative Duvets: Which One is Right for You?

Wool vs. Down vs. Down Alternative Duvets: Which One is Right for You?

There is nothing quite like curling up at night under a cozy duvet, and as we move into the chillier months,

Today there are so many different duvet options available that it can be overwhelming and more than a little confusing. Well, we’re here to help! We wanted to take the confusion out of duvet shopping, so we’re breaking down the differences of the three most popular duvet types: wool, down, and down alternative.

Wool Duvets

If you aren’t familiar with wool duvets, you may be picturing a wool blanket, but a wool duvet actually looks and feels very similar to a down duvet. While most people tend to immediately think of down when they think duvets, wool actually has a number of unique qualities that make it an ideal bedding material.

Temperature Regulating: Wool is designed to keep a sheep warm when it’s cold out and cool when it’s warm out, and it will do the same for you while you sleep. You’ll stay warm and cozy during the winter but still be comfortable in the warm summer months.

Moisture Wicking:For anyone who tends to run hot or feel sweaty when they sleep, wool is a great option. It’s naturally moisture wicking and will help to pull moisture and perspiration away from your body while you sleep.

Hypoallergenic:Wool is a great option for anyone who deals with allergies. It’s naturally hypoallergenic, resistant to dust mites and allergens, and it’s easy to clean (machine washable and can be tumble dried on low).

Feel:Wool duvets have a denser feel than a down duvet and a medium weight.

Materials:Our organic wool duvets are made with an organic sateen cotton shell and filled with premiums New Zealand wool filling. The process is completely animal cruelty free- shearing sheep is a natural process and is done 1-2 times per year. Wool is naturally biodegradable.

Conclusion:Wool is great for year-round comfort thanks to its naturally temperature regulating and moisture wicking properties. It’s great for anyone with allergies, it’s easy to clean, and our wool duvets are made from sustainable, organic, and cruelty free materials.

Down Duvets

If you tend to sleep cold, or love a light fluffy blanket, down may be the option for you.

Retains Warmth:Down is designed to retain warmth, so it is perfect for those cold winter nights or for anyone who tends to feel chilly while they sleep. Unlike wool, it’s more temperature retaining than regulating, so it may be too warm for someone who runs hot while they sleep.

Allergens:Because down can tend to hold onto moisture, it isn’t always recommended for people with allergies because it can facilitate the growth off molds and allergens. Our down duvets, however, have been sterilized so they are hypoallergenic. They can also be cleaned (machine wash slow cycle cool and tumble dry low), which helps to further prevent allergens.

Feel:The fluffy lightweight feel of a down duvet is hard to beat. If you want that sleeping-in-a-cloud feeling, down is the perfect choice.

Materials: Our down duvets are made with an organic sateen cotton shell and filled with responsibly sourced duck down. The cover is down proof, so you won’t lose any feathers.

Conclusion: For maximum warmth and fluffy comfort, down is the natural choice. However, it may not be suitable for those who tend to run hot when they sleep or need moisture wicking properties. Some down duvets may also not be suitable for people with allergies.
